I'm not someone who is hardcore about making everything from scratch, but let's face it: homemade is almost always better than store-bought. I found a recipe I plan to try in the very near future that requires pumpkin pie spice, and happened to have all the necessary ingredients on hand to make it (and even an empty spice container in which to store it!).
My family has never used pumpkin pie spice for...well, anything to my knowledge, so I don't think I'll need a full batch. Instead I made half of what the recipe suggests:
1.5 tbls ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground nutmeg
.75 tsp ground allspice
.75 tsp ground cloves
Mix it well with a fork to blend all the spices together and voila! Store it in a small jar or spice container to keep it fresh.
And be on the lookout for an upcoming post where we'll be using some of our homemade pumpkin pie spice to make for some jolly tastebuds!
Cheers, mates!
